Expressive Arts (Art, Drama, Music)

The Expressive arts faculty is made up of Art, Drama and Music.  We have a very committed and hardworking team. The team is led by Mrs Needham who specialises in Drama. The leader of teaching and learning in Art is Mrs Partridge and in Music is Miss Miller.  The rest of the team consists of specialist teachers within each of the discrete areas. These are Mrs Turner, Mr Mellors, Mr Tipping, Mrs Barnett and Miss Pickard.  Students are encouraged to be inquisitive and develop their performance and visual skills creatively and imaginatively within both lessons and extra-curricular activities which results in exceptional classwork and outstanding art galleries and performance evenings.

In years 7 and 8 students receive a single lesson of Drama, Art and Music each week. Students also participate in a Y7 Expressive Arts Flexible Learning Day where students have the opportunity to visit the theatre or art galleries.

Drama and Music Curriculum

In Key stage 3 drama and music lessons focus on creativity, team work, self discipline and reflective analysis focusing on the development of key skills ahead of KS4.

Drama Curriculum – Year Group Topics Covered:

Year 7

Year 8

• Exploring Text
• Structures and form

Year 9, 10 and 11

Students can opt to study Level 2 Performing Arts BTEC (Edexcel) or G.C.S.E. Drama (AQA)
